Circumstances in which the Linux dedicated server hosting is not the best choice

One of the reasons why Windows is so popular among consumers can reside in the fact that it is more intuitive and much simpler to use compared with other operating systems. Therefore, if a site owner is among the many Windows users accounted in statistics, then the Linux dedicated server hosting should not be their primary choice. Unlike Windows, Linux dedicated servers have slashes going in different directions and the commands are dissimilar. All in all, the biggest drawback is that the users will need to learn a new programming language.

Users that are clueless about the file permission protocols constitute another category that is better off with a Windows dedicated server. In a Linux dedicated server hosting most scripts require setting specific file permissions on the folders included, which is a concept quite difficult to comprehend at first. As the file permissions need to be specific, making incorrect commands means that the scripts do not run. Another big distinction from Windows servers is the Telnet application. Telnet is typically used to administer the server and requires the user to be familiar with the necessary commands to operate it.

What Windows dedicated servers have and the Linux ones do not are the .NET and .ASP protocols. As a side note, while most users know the Front File Extensions are associated with Windows servers, nowadays most Linux based hosts include them in the basic package. The aforementioned protocols however, are not available in UNIX servers and, depending on the case, can be a major inconvenience. The .ASP has determined many site owners to make the switch from Linux to Windows due to the smoother data integration.

However, let’s not forget that there are also many benefits associated with Linux dedicated servers, such as costs, stability, performance and administering features. If a user has the patience and will to learn a new programming language, then he should give it a try.
