Choosing the right toy box for your child, your family, and your home can be overwhelming and frustrating.  It’s frustrating if you try to shop at local stores, as you’ll find only a few options.  It’s overwhelming if you try to shop online, where there are hundreds of websites and choices.  Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Before you go shopping, you can make things easier on yourself by answering a few quick questions.  These questions help you evaluate what is best for your family and your home.  Here’s a brief list.

  • What budget do you have?  Budget concerns can play a big role on which chest you choose. If you have a limited budget, you can still find great toy chests under $50.
  • What type of space do you have?  If you have limited space, you may want to consider a toy chest that doubles as another piece of furniture, like a bench or a bookshelf.  This   Sugar Plum toy box bench would be especially cute in a little girl’s room!
  • What does your child like?  If your child loves firefighters, he may appreciate a fire engine toy chest.  But a princess toy box may not be the best choice!  If more than one child will be sharing the box, make sure to get something neutral to prevent any fights.
  • What sort of decor do you have?  You don’t want your new toy box to be an eyesore.  Make sure that it fits with the rest of the room so you don’t regret your purchase.

Once you answer these questions, you’ll be better prepared to start shopping.  Online is a great place to see a lot more options.  Sites like Amazon, ToyChests.org, Ebay, and Etsy all provide excellent places to start.
