Home Bar Necessities

When building a home bar you need more than a shelf of booze, there are some key elements that are central to any successful bar.  This post is aimed at those who are looking at building a real bar inside their home, and doing it right.  I’ll offer some must-have things and how to save money on them.

Stem ware is the key to a classy home bar.  No one wants a drink poured in a mason jar, unless that’s the theme.  The cool thing is that you don’t need to spend a fortune on designer brand stem ware, unless you really want to.  You’re going to need at the minimum pint glasses, shot glasses, high ball glasses, white and red wine glasses, and martini glasses.  The key to save money on these is to buy where the bars do, restaurant supply stores.  You will pay a fraction of what you would at a traditional store by shopping here, and get the same quality that your local pub has.

If you have running water nearby, consider installing a home bar sink.  These are what separates the amateur home bar from the classy one.  Bar sinks can be very expensive, especially when you’re looking at hammered copper bar sinks!  Save money on these by being patient when shopping.  Good deals seem to pop up out of nowhere, and be sure to watch for free shipping when shopping online.  Also consider getting an ice machine with the water, this will make sure that you never have to run back and forth to the kitchen.

Accessories like lighting can really set your home bar apart from the rest.  Obviously there are a lot of different choices here, you can go with classy pendant lighting or neon beer signs.  Either choice is great, just a different theme.  If you’re looking for neon beer signs, eBay is the place to get them dirt cheap.

Building a home bar takes planning and preparation.  Be sure to spend time mapping out all of the details before hand so you can get exactly what you want without having to settle for anything else.  This is going to be your place of fun and relaxation for years to come, so be sure that it’s right the first time!
