Turned Down for a Mortgage? Fix Credit Fast!

Tags: , , ,

People want to learn how to fix credit fast for many reasons.  Maybe you have made a promise to yourself that this is the year that you finally get your finances in order.  Or maybe you are attempting to get a credit repair mortgage and your score needs a little boost so that you will qualify.  Whatever your reason you should understand that while there is nothing that will yield the results of a comprehensive credit restoration plan, there are several things that you can do that will give your FICO score a relatively quick boost.  How quick?  Most strategies will take between 60 and 90 days, so if you are planning on a major purchase be sure to start early.

One of the simplest things that you can do is get out of debt!  Focus on your revolving accounts because these have the most impact on your credit score.  You should try to get each account below 20% of your total credit line.  Once you do that you can focus on paying your credit cards off.  After your credit cards are gone, you can pay off your installment accounts but you should not expect to see the types of results that you did when you paid off credit cards.

Do you have collection accounts?  Whatever you do, do not simply pay them off.  This is especially true if the accounts are older.  Paying an account renews the last activity date.  This means that when you pay a five year old collection, the credit scoring matrix will look at the account as being currently active rather than five years old.  The net effect can actually be a lower score not higher!

What you want to do is call the creditor and attempt to get a pay for delete agreement in writing.  This is an agreement that simply states that upon receipt of payment in full that they agree to remove the account and negative rating from your credit file.
