EReaders are popular

Tags: ,

EReaders are popular these days.  They are popular as gifts for birthdays, holiday season presents, and for other occasions.   There are many eReaders in the market today.  Some of them are in color like the Nookcolor, and some of the other eReaders have black and white screen, which use eInk technology.  All of the most popular eReaders use eInk technology.  This list include the Amazon Kindle, Border’s Kobo eReader, Sony Reader, and Barnes and Noble Nook.  However, the color eReaders such as the NookColor from Barnes and Noble and tablet PCs (eg, Apple’s iPad), which can be used as eReaders, are gaining in popularity.

One of the best things about eInk technology is that it does not cause eye strain.  Eye strain happens after you watch a lot tv or you work on a computer and stare at a monitor all day.  It’s true that most people do not want to cause more eye strain.  As eInk technology does not use a back lit screen.  Thus, there is no eye strain.  Did you know that eInk technology comes in 8 gray shade scale or a 16 gray shade scale?  It depends on the maker of your eReader which version they include. Similar to a regular book, the eInk technology screens can be read in full daylight.  For example, you can be outside in a bright sunny day and still be able to read your eReader.  Despite the bright sun, the eInk technology acts just like a regular book.  There is no washout.  And similar to a regular book, you will need a book light or other light to see the words on the screen if you find yourself in poor lighting conditions, like in an airplane.

A key reason why the color screen eReaders are becoming more popular is because they are multifunctional.  One example is that you can turn your Apple iPad or Tablet pc (running android operating system) into a ebook reader with apps from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Border’s.  You can set up accounts at all 3 places for free.

Regardless of which ebook reader you have, you’ll need to protect your ebook reader from wear and tear with protective cases like Nook covers or Nook color covers.

Navigating the NookColor

The NookColor is the newest ereader to join the market.  This article highlights the key features of the NookColor that allows you to judge whether you want to get it or not.

The NookColor has power button on the left side of the ebook reader device.  You will need to hold the button for about 2 or 3 seconds in order to turn it on.  The slot for the headphone jack is on the top of the device towards the right hand side.  It’s the standard 3.5mm audio jack that will accommodate most headphones, ear buds, skull candy, etc.  On the right hand side you will find the volume controls.  It’s located in the upper right hand side.  The “+” button will increase the volume and the “-” button will decrease it.  In the middle of the ereader is a very large 7 inch color touch screen.  This is where you’ll be reading all your ebooks and where you’ll be doing your navigation.  You’ll notice on this ereader that there are no buttons on the front side.  This gives the ebook reader a sleek design.  Under this large touch screen is a black bar with a lower case “n” in the middle.  This represents the home button.  If you press and hold this button for a second while the NookColor is in sleep mode, your NookColor will “wake up.”  However, if your NookColor is already on and you press this button, you will be escorted to the home screen.  This is how you get to the home page.

On the bottom left hand corner of the ereader device is the microUSB port.  This port allows you to connect cords to the NookColor for charging or linking to a personal computer.  On the back of the device is a place where you can add a microSD memory card.  The NookColor comes with 8 GB of memory.  This is a large amount of memory that can hold thousands of books.  If you need more storage space, it’s easy to upgrade your memory amount by adding in a card in the microSD memory card slot.

In order to protect your investment you need to get Nook color cases or nook color covers.
