Once such thing to make sure that they take the time to see is Sunken Forest. This is a tourist attraction that is going to be educational and fun at the same time, and is great for those nature nuts that want to get closer to their roots. Sunken Forest contains about forty acres of land that is home to many different species of wildlife. The person will find that it is an adventure right from the get goes, as the person will find many paths that they can hike through in order to get to see all the animals that are contained within this area.

However, one of the main reasons that people end up going into the deeper parts of the Forest are to view the trees. Due to the sea salt in the air, the trees have shaped and curved to display just how the wind was hitting these trees at one time. Most people when they come upon these trees are amazed at their size, however, they are estimated to be over two hundred years old, thus they have had the time to grow and mature.

This area is also home to many different species of birds that the avid bird watcher is going to enjoy watching since there are so many of them to choose from and they are constantly coming and going as they please. For bird watchers, this is perhaps the best area to come and watch birds since they know that they are going to see something that is going to be amazing.

During the summer months, the main touring months for visitors, there are guided tours that are available for those that want to make sure that they are seeing everything and anything that the Sunken Forest has to offer – just take the Fire Island Ferry. A word of advice is to bring plenty of water bottles to stay hydrated while in the forest, and to be sure that you are wearing comfortable and sturdy shoes. There are paths, but walking this far in sandals or heels is not going to be in the best interest of the person that is taking the tour. The tour will have a very informed guide who can tell the person everything about the forest that they could possibly want to know.
